There are a lot of interesting facts about Massage Therapists that you may not already know

There are so many wonderful things to list about Massage Therapists, but I will do my best to focus on my top 5.

1. Massage therapy is about health and wellness, period. There is no judgment on the type of body you have, the physical conditioning, or the color of your skin. Massage Therapists want to help you have a better life, to live in a more pain-free condition, to help you relax and decompress, and this is all done with nothing but the best of intentions for you in mind. Massage Therapists place their hands on you to help you feel better mentally, physically, and often spiritually.

2. Massage Therapists are a very diverse group of people. Here at AMBI, we have worked with students from nearly 50 countries of origin. You are likely to see students on campus from all over the world, all different races and ethnicities. Our students range in age from recent high school graduates to students in their 70s. We have had students enroll from many different professional backgrounds including physicians; nurses; physical and occupational therapists; attorneys; health care professionals; professional athletes; retail employees, just to name a few. The only thing that all of our students have in common is their desire to help other people feel better, what an amazing common interest! The number of Massage Therapists has increased by 19% over the last decade. Nearly half of Massage Therapists (41%) have a Bachelor’s degree or higher.* Massage therapy was rarely the first career choice for most Massage Therapists, regardless of practice setting. Everyone is welcome in this industry and here at AMBI!

3. Licensed Massage Therapists are considered primary health care providers. This means that you can walk right off the street and come to see them without a referral or prescription. Massage positively affects the body and health conditions such as pain management, circulatory issues, stress reduction, injury rehabilitation, migraine control, and overall wellness. We each have approximately 5 million touch receptors in our skin which is the largest organ of the body.

4. Massage Therapists are in very high demand. The United States Bureau of Labor and Statistics lists massage therapy (much faster than average) at 21% in job growth outlook**. The fastest growing segments in massage therapy are in the medical aspects of massage therapy as well as performance related issues in working with professional and amateur athletes. While a client’s overall goal for visiting with a Massage Therapist may be to release/reduce stress, most are coming in because they are also experiencing chronic pain in one or more parts of their body.

5. Many Massage Therapists have lots of interests beyond massage, and this is the perfect career for someone with multiple passions. A full-time Massage Therapist can expect to work around 27-30 hours a week! There are employers that offer benefits at this level of work as well. Massage is a great full-time career, affording the therapist with lots of extra week left after their work is completed. In addition, massage therapy is a great part-time career as well, and will always serve you no matter how many hours a week you choose to practice.
