Introduction to Deep Tissue Day 1

11:00AM – 6:00 PM
CE Hours: 6
Instructor: Tracy Berg, LMT

Course Description:

This course will outline several deep tissue techniques to be applied to the body’s major muscle groups in the NECK, THORAX, and UPPER EXTREMITY, as well as the proper body mechanics required to perform them safely and effectively. During the course, the practitioner will also review the body’s major endangerment sites, the importance of bilateral work and palpation, and communication techniques for identifying and working within the client’s pain threshold. Upon completion, the practitioner will have greater knowledge of how to successfully access the deeper layers of muscle for the purposes of offering and applying a more therapeutic approach to massage and bodywork.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify adhesions, trigger points, ischemia, and edema within the body’s tissues
  • Recognize and avoid endangerment sites in the upper body
  • Understand the indications and contraindications for deep tissue massage
  • Understand chronic vs acute tension within the muscular system and the application of appropriate therapeutic interventions
  • Establish and communicate the pain scale, as well as identify an acceptable pain threshold level with the client
  • Identify non-verbal communication from the client during the deep tissue session
  • Safely perform deep tissue therapeutic massage to the neck, thorax, and upper extremities
